In addition to our permanent team, Optimal Performance Limited work with a number of associates in academia and industry, who are each specialists providing expert advice and further access to information and technical facilities.

Professor Doug Carroll is a Sports Psychologist and Head of the School of Sports and Exercise Sciences at The University of Birmingham. Doug’s research interests concern stress managmement and health promotion in the workplace.

Professor Joan Duda is a world-renowned expert in motivation in sport.  She has broad research and applied experience in the field of sports psychology, exercise psychology and motivation.  She has worked with athletes and coaches involved in a variety of sports at all competitive levels, including the gold medal US Olympic Gymnastics Team.

Dr Ian Gemmel is a Consultant Occupational Physician. His Masters in Employment Law provides expertise in medico-legal issues and previous collaborations with OPL have involved establishing medical standards for the British Army and revamping the medical guidelines for the UK Fire and Rescue Service prior to the extension of the Disability Discrimination Act to the Service in October 2004.

Dr Richard Graveling is Head of Human Sciences at the Institute of Occupational Medicine. Work on the physical and thermal load in mineworkers, mine rescue workers and firefighters have featured strongly in his work.

Dr Elizabeth Hoinville is a Consultant Medical Statistician at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Elizabeth specialises in planning and analysing medical surveys and epidemiological studies.

Dr Asker Jeukendrup is Academic Director of the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Birmingham. He is considered an international expert in the areas of sports nutrition and metabolic responses to exercise.

Professor David Jones is an internationally renowned Muscle Physiologist at the University of Birmingham. His areas of expertise include muscle training, fatigue and muscle damage.

Ms Sue Joyner is Freelance Human Factors Consultant and Researcher with wide-ranging military and civilian experience of ergonomic issues in the workplace.

Professor Alan Nevill is Chair at the University of Wolverhampton. Alan is a statistician, specialising in designing studies, analysing and modelling human performance data.

Dr Nikos Ntoumanis has a research interest in the psychological mechanisms that determine motivation in sport and exercise settings and he is a user of advanced quantitative methodologies.

Lt Col Jeremy Owen is Army Professor of Occupational Medicine. He has been a Consultant Occupational Physician since 1996 and provides Occupational Health advice to the British Forces Health Services.

Lesley Pugh has an MSc in Change Agent Skills and has worked in the field of people development for 12 years. She has a background in management development with ICI and Zeneca where she facilitated teams in Europe, North America and across the UK to help them quickly focus and deliver.

Dr Tony Williams is a Consultant Occupational Physician and Director of Working Fit Ltd, a company devoted to providing and improving occupational health services.
