Defence

Optimal Performance Limited (OPL) was founded on its work in the UK Defence sector, which still continues to be a major component of our business. We have led a diverse range of work programmes, including: the development of physical fitness and selection standards, optimising training programmes, examining thermal and cardiovascular responses to military training, measuring dietary intake and energy expenditure, and quantifying risk factors for injury.

Our expertise within the UK defence sector has generated demand for our services with other international military organisations and we have provided support to the United Arab Emirates, United States and Australian Armed Forces.

The revision of Joint Service Publication (JSP) 912 in November 2010 now makes human factors a mandatory requirement for all Ministry of Defence acquisition projects and programmes. This includes a range of procurement options including Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS), Military Off The Shelf (MOTS) and Urgent Operational Requirements (UORs). Where human factors resources are drawn from Industry, it is preferred that they should be a UK Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors Registered Consultancy (through which OPL is registered).

OPL is an approved supplier to the MOD, holding a number of enabling contracts including the Framework Agreement for Technical Services (FATS) and is a member of the Haldane Spearman Consortium (H-SC).
